Were You Born in 1969? Happy 40th!

O-M-G! I know that’s what you’re thinking if you happen to be one of the 3,600,206 people who were born in the United States in 1969. Easy, Tiger. You’re in good company. For example, celebrities turning 4-0 with you this year are Gwen Stefani, Jennifer Aniston and Ice Cube.

Or how about Bobby Brown?

Alexis Arquette? (Shim’s hot!)

Marilyn Manson? (Shim’s not!)

Somebody tell me — Was there something in the water in 1969?

Regardless of these outstanding representatives of those born that year, I bet it seemed like just yesterday when you were beltin’ out “Everybody Wang Chung tonite!” (And doing whatever dorky 80’s dance move was hip at the time.)

Later this week I’ll have more tips for “The Challenge to Stay Young Forever – Part 2.” I want to help you Fight the Fogey In You. For now, here’s my video gift to you: (if you have trouble viewing it here, this is the YouTube link.)

This is a video compilation of the good, the bad, and the ugly of 80’s music. Sorry, but the video quality is kinda fuzzy and distorted — very much like my memories of the 80’s. Enjoy…

Oh — and a special Happy 40th Birthday shout out to my brother Jim.

I’ll be the first to say that 80’s music was the best it could be, under the shadow of the Cold War and the threat of nuclear destruction.

People can trash talk 80’s music, but it’s kinda like a cousin that gets on your nerves. You’ll still defend him in a fight, but only if he’s getting jumped by 2 or more. However, as long as Air Supply is firmly embedded in 80’s music history, I can’t ever totally defend it.

Did you notice Courtney Cox in the video clip of Bruce Springsteen’s Dancing in the Dark?

And that David Lee Roth doing that high kick in Jump. Try THAT at 40! You’ll end up like Bobby Brown (see photo above).

Speaking of, Whitney Houston looked so cute in the video, just before Bobby Brown gave her an ass-kicking. Yeah, but who’s pwn’d now? (again, see photo above).

Love the site! Keep up the great posts. I’ve added you to my blog roll. We need to form a 70’s/80’s kids coalition of bloggers.

I’ll be checking in. Now I’m off to have a space food stick, a zinger and some Tang. Sure hope the Banana Splits is on…

Thanks Curtis Tucker. Yes! – I like the coalition idea. I really get a kick out of re-experiencing stuff from my childhood. I’m on the lookout for more sites (like yours) that bring back fond memories of those “simpler times,” such as your post at:

WOW – thanks for the video link. Interesting (and highly accurate) indeed. I called my 11 year-old son over – away from his computer – to watch it.

By the way, I’m a big fan of your Nostalgia and Retrospection site:

    Thanks for your comment.

BTW – I have enjoyed reading your posts, and I must say, they are very well written.

Look forward to reading more in the future.

Re: “Where can I find one?”

Well, actually I was “returned merchandise” when my second husband Jace found me.

Now he thinks I’m defective. But that’s mostly because I don’t cook much. (I told him too bad the warranty’s expired.)
