This is a follow-up to the 80’s Music Video Compilation from my Happy 40th Birthday post. What can I say, I can’t get enough of this stuff. Music, videos, nostalgia – what’s not to like? This was posted on YouTube courtesy of TheGreat70s.com. It’s pretty much all here in this one video. But, I do wish they included the Earth, Wind and Fire song “Reasons”, instead of “Shining Star” (which is still a great song). Can you do the falsetto? “The REEEEEasons that we’re here!”
Enjoy a song clip of “Reasons” here:
So for me, it ain’t a 70’s compilation without my favorites: The Carpenters, Jim Croce, and John Denver. Sheesh, no wonder my kids think I’m sappy.
It’s weird that even though I rarely hear some of these songs, when they do play on the radio, why is it I KNOW all the lyrics! Like Delta Dawn: “…what’s that flower you have on? Could it be a faded rose from days gone BY!!” I don’t even remember if it was a popular song back then, but those lyrics sure stick. Another example is Seasons in the Sun – beautiful but depressing. We had joy, we had fun, but now it’s time to DIE. Well, those aren’t the exact lyrics, but it’s the gist.
Little trivia: Karen Carpenter was living with her parents in Downey, California, when she died. I lived in a neighboring city and was taking a Driver’s Training class at the time. (Back then, L.A. area high schools provided this class – I think it was mandatory?) Anyhoo, just a couple of weeks after her death our instructor let us drive to her house just to reflect. Sad. Then when I was in my early 20’s, I lived in an apartment in Downey next door to a couple of the Carpenters’ family properties. They were also apartment buildings, aptly named “Close to You” and “We’ve Only Just Begun.” And that, my friend, is one of my many brushes with fame. (Insert eye-roll here.)
Hey – I just realized that Bread wasn’t in the compilation! What the –? How?! Why?! WhaHappen?
So, which video song clip takes you back the most? And which song from the 70’s do you think should have definitely been included?
To which one did you make out for the first time? “Joy to the World”? or “Bad Girl”? Most likely I’d say it was, “Let’s Get it On,” right? You tell me…
