Some songs are just so perfect for their time, such as when For What It’s Worth (with it’s haunting melody) came out during the era of the Viet Nam war, civil rights movement, riots in Chicago and L.A., and a general anti-establishment mood across the U.S.
The Los Angeles Times reported today that the drummer on this song, Dewey Martin, 68, was found dead in his apartment here in the San Fernando Valley in California.
This is one of my favorite songs. I heard someone sing it at a karaoke bar and the guy channeled Stephen Stills perfectly.
For a great collection of music that takes you back to the 60’s, 70’s, and 80’s, the Flashback sister-site of Nostalgia and Retrospection (also found on my right sidebar) will get you reminiscing.

Requests? Sweet! Ok… since you asked, here goes. (You’ll be my BFF if you can accommodate one song for each decade, your pick. THANKS.)
60’s – Peter, Paul and Mary (Blowin’ in the Wind) or Classics IV (Stormy).
70’s – Deep Purple (Smoke on the Water), Nazareth (Love Hurts), Three Dog Night (Old-fashioned Love Song or Black and White), or anything by Steve Miller Band.
80’s – The Tubes (She’s a Beauty) or Simple Minds (Don’t You Forget About Me).
I’m looking forward to March!
