So just an update on what’s going on with this blog. WhaHappen is almost 2 years old now. The blog, not me. I know I act like a kid, but c’mon people.

Well, as some of you know, I took that “brief” year-long blogging hiatus after my Memorial Day 2009 post. Originally, it was to sort out my adult life and figure out how to have even more fun, especially once I ditch my job as a servant to the City of L.A. The job often really gets in the way of FUN.

Let’s just sum it up with this quote

So before I fast-forward to recent stuff, here’s what happened while I was on hiatus:

My mom died. On October 14, 2009 at 6am. It was a Wednesday. Raining, of course. Because rain knows I’ve always hated it – so it was the ultimate payback. Mom had been hospitalized since 4 weeks earlier, all the while my family rode that pendulum of hope and heartache. I once even wrote a post about Mom and how I wished she wouldn’t be old anymore.

I mention her death because I’m caught by surprise how lost I am without my mom. Even though I’m now 44, I feel like a little kid who had to say good-bye too soon – to the one person who’s always taken care of me. I miss my mom so much.

So basically, losing my mom made me realize more than ever that I have to live my life with all the joy I can muster. That I have to fight back sadness and bring out the goofiness I’m now always holding back.

I want to honor my mom by keeping my sense of humor alive. Because my mom LOVED to laugh. She laughed, without judgment, at all my silliness, especially when I imitated her and her thick accent.

And that’s why I’ve been pushing forward since then, no matter how tired and defeated I feel sometimes. One of my dreams is to own a really fun retail store, with children’s books, cool toys, and hilarious gift items. That’s the goal I’ve been working on lately. It’s one of the few things recently that makes me smile and giggle.

I feel like a kid again whenever I’m at the showrooms testing out toys. And it’s Christmas every week when products arrive in bulky cartons that make my cute UPS guy mutter angrily under his breath, but I just pretend that he’s just talking dirty to me.

So from here on, there will be some incremental changes on this blog. More wackiness than ever. But before I start posting on a regular basis, I need to find my inner kid again. I think she ran away and hid somewhere safe temporarily because she doesn’t want her friends to see her sad.

One thing that’s NOT going to change is my philosophy: Never, ever grow old. Never grow up. Stay young at heart forever.
